Sheep

We offer a comprehensive, flexible and individual approach to your flock health, with our main focus on improving the health and production of your animals, with the aim of reducing your production costs and minimising medicines usage. No flock is too large or small. We produce bespoke flock health plans that meet the minimum Red Tractor requirements.

Rams
It is important to ensure that your rams are fully functional prior to tupping to ensure maximum lambing returns. We can provide a full ram MOT visit including full health check and reproductive assessment of any existing breeding rams or newly purchased rams.

Ewes
Optimising your Ewes

Pre breeding it is important to ensure that your ewes are in optimum condition. This can include body condition scoring; identifying ewes with broken mouths, udder issues, or with a history of foot problems and ensuring they are not bred; trace element/mineral assessment; and checking faecal egg counts.

Pre lambing is also a very important time for the ewes, as getting something wrong in the heavily pregnant ewe can have disastrous consequences. It is good practice to scan your ewes so can feed them an appropriately balanced diet. We are happy to offer assistance with forage analysis and advice on concentrate feeding, as well as blood sampling to check nutritional and mineral status.

Controlled Breeding Programmes
Having a controlled breeding programme aims to tighten the lambing period and encourage the ewes to come into season earlier. We have a lot of experience in selecting appropriate rams for teasers and performing vasectomies. We are also happy to advise and plan with you the use of synchronisation programmes.

Flock Health Plans

Having a structured flock health plan can be vastly beneficial in aiding the smooth running of our flock and helping to ensure that no tasks are forgotten. We are happy to sit down with you and create a bespoke flock health plan that meets all the requirements of your business and your animals.

Annual antibiotic reviews are not only a red tractor requirement but also a useful bench marking tool and discussion point. We also have plenty of experience with accreditation schemes and are happy to assist you in helping gain accreditation status.

Parasite Monitoring

With wormer resistance ever increase, we appreciate the need for a convenient and rapid faecal egg count results. Our in-house lab service can provide a worm egg and coccidiosis count result quickly after submission and provide guidance on the best course of action for your flock.

We recommend using faecal egg counts to regularly monitor burdens, check wormer efficiency, for clinical diagnosis or to differentiate a coccidiosis issue. In turn this allows you to make financial and time savings by only worming when necessary and reduce the risk of build of worm resistance.
